Mold Destroys Hundreds Of Toys Collected By Delray Beach Police

The Delray Beach Police Department is hoping to get some new donations to replace the hundreds of toys they've collected for kids this Christmas, which were destroyed by mold.

Police say the toys were being stored in a metal shipping container at the police station, and were going to be distributed to underprivileged children for Christmas. But they were unaware until now that the container had leaks.

Police say a few new bikes can be saved, but they estimate about three-quarters of the toys will have to be thrown out.

There are about 60 businesses in and around Delray Beach with collection boxes still in place. The plan is to start distributing the toys next Thursday.
