Hillsborough County Schools Unveils Superintendent Candidates

The list of candidates hoping to be the next Hillsborough County Schools Superintendent has been revealed and a decision could be made as soon as next month.

Among the 51 candidates is current Clay County Superintendent Addison Davis.

Search firm Ray and Associates will cut the list down to about a dozen people before the School Board meets again in early January and the chosen candidate could be approved by January 21st.

Sitting Hillsborough schools leader Jeff Eakins is retiring on June 30th.

He was promoted from within he he took the job in 2015 and is helping the school district recruit and vet candidates. He's been with the district since 1989.

Eakins told the board that he wants to spend more time with his family, including his aging parents who live in Ohio.
