Community Groups Unite To Stop Youth Violence In Miami-Dade

Miami-Dade community leaders joining Superintendent Alberto Carvalho for the first Board of Trustees meeting for the group "Together For Children." The group was created 3 years ago as a long-term approach to break the cycle of shootings killing young children in the community. Gepsie Metellus with the Haitian Neighborhood Center says the solution isn't a simple, it incorporates looking at several factors like the child's school environment. The Florida Department of Health says from 2006-to-2016 there were 12-hundred-84 Florida children killed by gunfire-33-percent of them were teens gunned down in South Florida.Miami-Dade had 343 shooting deaths, the most in the state.
