Driver in Custody After SUV Drives Through Woodfield Mall in Illinois

The driver of a black SUV was taken into custody Friday afternoon after the driver smashed his vehicle through the entrance to a Sears store and then drove through the rest of the mall.

There was “no evidence of an active shooter situation,” Schaumburg police said in a statement.

The incident occurred at the Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg, Illinois around 2:30 p.m. Friday afternoon. Video posted to Twitter showed the joyriding driver smash through several kiosks on the ground floor as shopper can be seen running for their lives.

"This is not happening right now," the twitter user can be heard saying in the video.

WGN reports that the driver was taken into custody and that Schaumburg police confirmed that there had been no injuries reported so far.

Police evacuated the mall and are asking the public to stay out of the area if they can help it. Additional video posted to social media showed police escorting a man in a red shirt from the mall, with the person's hands behind their back.
