Traveler Tries To Smuggle Live Birds Through JFK

A passenger flying into John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York City over the weekend was caught trying to smuggle live animals into the country from South America.  U.S. Customs and Border Protection says an agriculture specialist found over 70 live birds that had been placed inside women's hair rollers that were being carried in a large black duffel bag.  The birds were identified as finches.  They were confiscated from the passenger and quarantined before being transported for veterinary services.
